Cooks Beach

About the Area

Cooks Beach is prestigous a small coastal settlement strung out along a wide sweeping beach frontage, and is bounded inland by the presence of foothills. The larger town of Whitianga is nearby, and access between the two settlements is via a short ferry trip across a channel inlet.

With Cooks Beach being so close to the township of Whitianga, 5 minutes by ferry ride, residents have available to them many shops, restaurants, utilities and services. The settlement is characterised by the presence of baches and holiday accommodation, with local stores, cafes, wineries and restaurants.  Its population grows considerably during the summer months.

Boat launching ramps are available at Cooks Beach and sea related activities within the Mercury Habour attracting a lot of people to the area. Cooks Beach has a very pleasant inlet and river at the south end of the settlement, and headlands at each end of the beach.

Cooks Beach is a short drive to the beautiful Hahei Beach, famous for Catherdral Cove and Hot Water Beach with it's hot water bubbling from beneath the sand at low tide.
